Wallis Implant?

Hi all!
I had my second opinion from another spine specialist (first opinion was a disk replacement or LT-cage anterior fusion of L4/L5 for teared, bulging disk). This doc showed me a brand new device called the "wallis implant"...it is put in from the back - small incision - plastic spacer that fits between 2 spinous processes (the bumps that you feel in the middle of your back) there are also 2 stabilizing banRAB that wrap around each of these processes to provide additional stability. The implant attempts to re-stabilize the spine but not to fuse the bones together.

It is BRAND SPANKIN' NEW in the states and I would be included in a study from Wallis. The good thing about this implant is that if it does not provide relief, it can be removed pretty easily...which would still allow me to get the fusion down the road.

Would love to hear from anyone that has had this implant or who has been approached to participate in this study. Your thoughts/insights would be helpful. My husband thinks it is a good alternative to fusion at this point since fusion is so...final...if it doesn't work. As usual....I am scared...hey, I am the one going under the knife!!!

Thanks!!! Jac

Hi Jac,
Just wondering did you have the Wallis Implant put in? I know your post is from a few years ago but ive recently had a discetomy (my second one) and the wallis put in and there does not seem to be many people in Ireland to discuss it with or who have ever heard of it. They have only started doing it in Ireland in the last 2 years. Any thoughts you have would be much appreciated
Jo
