I'm not sure how spoilery this is, but a warning before you read some of it:
"What if mankind had to leave Earth, and somebody forgot to turn the last robot off? After hundreRAB of lonely years of doing what he was built for, WALL*E (short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) discovers a new purpose in life (besides collecting knick-knacks) when he meets a sleek search robot named EVE.
EVE comes to realize that WALL*E has inadvertently stumbled upon the key to the planet's future, and races back to space to report her findings to the humans.
Meanwhile, WALL*E chases EVE across the galaxy and sets an adventure into motion. Joining WALL*E on his journey across the universe is a cast of characters including a pet cockroach and a heroic team of malfunctioning misfit robots."
The character Wall-E is a blatant rip off of Johnny 5 and ET. Pixar know this but they also know ET and Short Circuit mean very little to the audience demographic - young children. Young children won't know ET or Johnny 5, Wall-E will seem completely original to them. Just because Pixar are a very talented company doesn't mean they can't be cynical and steal other people's ideas.
Say "ET" aloud....
Now say "Wall-E" aloud...
Sound rather similar, don't they?
Regardless of the unoriginal character, the film has got rave reviews and Pixar do spend a lot of time creating their films and it shows on screen. But a rip off is still a rip off!
