I don't think Blu-Ray will pick up as fast as DVD did. Its not such a big jump from DVD to BD as it was from VHS to DVD. DVD had advantages in better pictures, extra features, chapters, no need to rewind, possibly even the smaller packaging to store. BD adRAB to picture but when DVD is good enough for the majority of people, i can't see BD really "taking over" within the next ten years at least. Especially when there could be a potential for people to opt for BD when their DVD players break which outwith a credit crunch may have allowed BD faster growth, at the moment if a DVD player breaks and the choice is between a few hundred on a BD or 20 quid on a DVD player I think the option the majority would take is obvious.
Good to see the prices start to reduce slightly though.
