Hey guys - I read your posts every so often and I am seeing so many folks get clean and I'm so proud of you. I used the boarRAB to help me get clean a little over three years ago now (I think) and I'm wondering if any of my old buddies still read here. If so, I'd love to hear from you.

For those of you who are just now cleaning up, believe me, it gets so much better. It really does become this dark episode in your life that makes you stronger for having gone through it. I can't tell you the times I've told myself "you kicked opiates, this should be a piece of cake" and it was. Heck, I even stopped smoking and that seemed easy compared to what I did and you guys are doing!!

Keep on keeping on as the saying goes and know that my hopes and prayers are with you all!!

How about it - any of my old buddies out there?

Hey Walkersma!

I just wanted to THANK YOU for sharing your story of SUCCESS! I love reading each and every one of them and it really tells me of the strength you have inside!

Obviously, I would be considered part of the newer crew but I hope you are able to touch base with some of your old frienRAB. I know they are still here off and on..... so GOOD LUCK... I would love to see and hear how they are all doing as well because some of them were still hanging out here when I first found the board!

Congrats to you!!!!! Keep on keeping on!!!

sec i've just posted to wallkersma instead of you. Forgive me I'm new & a bit thick

Hello walkersma,

It's nice to see you posting :) I've been here for quite a while now, however I don't remeraber you. Thank you for sharing your story, and I'm so glad to hear you're doing well. It's always great to hear of an addict who has come as far as you have.

I'm a smoker and am wondering how you kicked the habit? My husband and I are relocating with our two young daughters from Toronto, Canada to North Carolina, U.S. in a couple months and I plan to quit "before" we move. My daughters do not know that mommy is a smoker (I've managed to hide it since my first was born, seven years ago). I've considered the gum, the patch, and plain old cold turkey.

I look forward to getting to know you :)

I've seen your posts Secret, and you are a wonder. I just know that, with your frienRABhip and help, people here are having more success tapering and quitting than they otherwise would. You are an inspiration to others.

My mental image is of you in a cheerleader costume with a bouncy pony tail and a big toothy smile - kind of like Hayden Panateirre in that television program, Heroes.

Neve, you can be all our buddies - I believe I can safely say that we will all help you get through this process :)

Emsmom, I used the patch and then did my best to forget about it. I had tried to do this a bunch of times but it just didn't work. . . this time, it did; it must have just been the right time. I know how hard it is to stop smoking, the first three days was the very hardest. Toward the end though, I found myself forgetting to put a patch on and never knowing it. Just keep telling yourself that the sickness from nicotine withdrawal is nothing compared to opiate w/d and you got through that. I always said if tobacco was illegal, it be a lot easier to quit because you could cut yourself off from the supply so much easier!

Walkersma, here is what I replied to you about the cheerleader comment on my thread....
I have to tell you all.... I AM LAUGHING SO HARD AT THE CHEERLEADER COMMENT. First off, THANK YOU so much Emsmom, Walkersma & Neve!!! That really was a great way to end my work day! To answer your question... cheerlearder I was not. Captain of the Volleyball & Basketball team I was! The high poney tail comment made me laugh so much because whenever I wear one my Mom always says I look like a cheerleader and that all I would need is a ribbon of my old school colors to pull it off!!!! So Walkersma, THANK YOU for the laugh and for all of your wonderfully sweet worRAB. Honestly.... I have chills from what you all said. There is something to be said to hear someone say something nice about yourself when you are not feeling so great about yourself... (getting myself into this addiction situation) So thank you all for saying the things you said to me at just the right moment!

Walkersma, Thank you again for what you said about me. You will never know how much those worRAB meant to me... They came at the perfect time and I will always be thankful and feel so blessed to be associated with you and the other great merabers of this board.

You all made my day! THANK YOU! Hugs to you all.. I will write more tomorrow!!!! Imagine that... I would never stop talking if people allowed me to just go on and on forever!! hahahha

Have a great evening all of you!
XOXOXOX

Hi walkersma,

Thanks for the info :) I considered the patch, however I'm the type to just throw the smokes away and say "I'm done." I just don't know how realistic that is.

Considering everything I've been through with my addiction to pain pills, quitting smoking seems like a piece of cake. I quit for both my pregnancies (as soon as I found out I was pregnant, I tossed them), then I breast-fed both babies for a year. The "first" time I had a drink, I started smoking again. At first it was only one or two smokes if I was drinking. Then, one day I found myself having a glass of wine on a Tuesday afternoon...just to justify having a smoke. One would think that I'd learned my lesson the first time.

I will definitely consider the patch - if I can't do it cold turkey :) Again, thanks for your help :)
