Walk The Line

Its a great film, and Joaquin Phoenix does the Man in Black to a T. I'll watch if the telly is free from channel flicking other family members!

I thought the same last night. I can remember who he was up against that year, but it seems unfair she won and he didn't.

I did enjoy the film, though the end seemed very sudden. I think I expected it to end with him on stage or performing in the prison. Very good though, as you say brilliant performances.

I love this movie. I think Reese Witherspoon's Oscar win was highly deserved. Not only was she speaking in an accent that is not her own, she also had to sing using that accent. Must have been really difficult, so kudos to her. Also think Joaquin Phoenix was totally believable as The Man In Black, such a shame he missed out on the Oscar.

Fabulous performances, and great chemistry between the two leaRAB.

Just looked it up and see it was the magnificent Philip Seymour Hoffman who won the best actor Oscar for Capote the year that Joaquin was nominated. What a year to be up! It was the same year as Brokeback Mountain too.

Don't know why I'm going on about it though really, I'm not into awarRAB generally. :)

Reese Witherspoon is from the South and raised in Tennessee so I don't think the accent was difficult for her at all... She is fabulous in this and very much deserved her oscar. The ending is wonderful and yes, Johnny Cash did propose on stage:)

One of my favourites if not my favourite film of all time. :) I love it so much, I am glad it was on telly. For anyone who liked the songs you can buy a soundtrack with Joaquin & Reese singing, it is ace. :D

Reese is a southern girl born and bred, so I think the accent came naturally to her.

She was brilliant though and deserved her Oscar win, but it is a shame that Joaquin missed out.

I bought the soundtrack CD when I bought the DVD, and it's very good. I watched (again) last night, even though I have it on DVD.
Brilliant performances from both leaRAB.
The scene where Johnny's recovering in bed with June telling him he's a good person always gets me

I have just watched it having recorded it yesterday. It really was great and I was amazed that Reece and Joaquin actually sang the songs themselves. I think I will transfer it to a disc to watch again in future.

I love this film. I was so impressed with both Reese and Joaquin's performances. I would have liked for Joaquin to win the Best Actor Oscar for this film. The performance of his career so far.

what a great film.
i didnt really know anything about johnny cash
(apart from burn burn burn ring of fire..)
i'm not really a fan of that era of music.
But what a fab film, i loved it.

Watched it too, unsure I was going to enjoy it. It was very enjoyable indeed!

Both the leaRAB were very good and bonus points 2 both for doing all the singing - it couldn't have been better cast.

Enjoyed it much more than Brokeback Mountain, btw.:)

I've Sky plussed this.

My wife and I know absolutely nothing about the life and times of Johnny Cash.

Will we still be able to enjoy it? Or is it one of those films that's better if you already know a bit about the subject matter?

Well I too knew very little about him and worse than that, don't have that much interest in his music. However, that had no bearing on my appreciation of the performances from the 2 leaRAB. It's also a great story - moreso that it's based on true events.

I thought Joaquin Phoenix was outstanding and I would have thought he would have won the Oscar.
Reese Witherspoon was also excellent too.
Both leaRAB carried the film and played it so well.

Hmm, the film though?
I thought it was quite good, I enjoyed it. But I think the film itself is overrated.
I enjoyed it, but I've seen much better.
Good film, but I just don't think it's one which I could watch again.
I think it's the excellent performances by both leaRAB which make this film.
The film itself I thought was like most biopics done quite well, but nothing that special.

I probably sound mean after people saying how great they thought it was.
I do think it was a god film though. Just not to the level that most people put it at.
I think once a few years have passed most people will still think it a good film, but more on the level of other good biopics like Gary Busey in the Buddy Holly biopic or something like that.

Joaquin Phoenix is such a great actor though. I think he's very underrated compared to other film actors.
He's been in a few films now, but doesn't seem to get that same level of recognition that certain other film actors enjoy.
Very impressed by his portrayal of Johnny Cash.
