Why do i get lower back ache in the morning, it's not painful, just a dull ache, have tried pain killers (tramadol) but they do not do anything (i guess this is due my not having pain just an ache)

I sleep for about 4 hours and my back ache wakes me up but when out of bed my back is fine, what can i do to relieve this back ache in the middle of the night and to get a good nights sleep, I'm slim not overweight, exercise, have tried different beRAB and still get the same

Can you recommend anything please, muscle relaxing tablets?? or am willing to try anything!!

Its such a simple problem I have but cant see to find a simple way to cure this.

Any help with this would be great

Many Thanks

Two other simple nonmedical suggestions:

1) Put a foam pad on top of your bed, either egg crate foam or a layer of memory foam. You need a new one about once a year.

2) Try some back stretches right before bed.

Hello,

I'm sorry that you're having issues with what might be your back, though there's no way to know that for sure. If it's been going on for two weeks or longer without any relief or is getting worse, then you should at least see your primary care doctor. Yes, it might seem like it's just a simple ache or simple problem, but that isn't necessarily so either. There are just so many different things that could cause an achiness in your back area and not all of them stem from the actual back. There are many organs inside that could potentially have something going on that makes it feel like it's in your back.

Of course I'm not a doctor, so I can't certainly diagnose your or anything. If all you have tried is tramadol, have you considered trying something like ibuprofen which is an anti-inflammatory OTC med? You might also try alternating ice and heat over the area to see if that gives you any relief. Hmm, if you've tried tramadol, though, then you must have seen a doctor already. What kind of doctor did you see? Did they send you for any kind of tests like x-ray or MRI?

It could be something simple, but could also be something more complicated. Unfortunately there is just no way to know that.

Many Thanks for the replies so far.

Have had an MRI scan and all is showed I had no major problems. Also have had some injection joints in the lower back as my back has been much worse then it is now.

So am I right in saying Tramadol has no muscle relaxing qualities only a pain killer?? so why do I wake up with back ache if im taking pain killers.

I will try some some ibuprofen but what prescription only anti-inflammatory tablet could I try as guess these will be stronger?

Well, as I mentioned, it could be possible that it's not even from your back. Have you been checked for kidney stones or anything else that could feel like it's from your back, but not? I think if you've seen a doctor and they no answer for you, you should probably get another opinion from a different doctor.

One thing with all medications, no one can say what medication might help someone. What helps for one person doesn't necessarily help for another person. It's all trial and error. You would have to try different meRAB until you find something that does work for you. But really, you should try to find out why you're having the pain first. There are just so many different possibilities.

Do you have a copy of your MRI report and if so, what did it say? Sometimes someone can have what appears to be a small issue that they think wouldn't cause pain, but it might cause pain in you.

Hi, this is a new reply to an old post so hopefully you already resolved your problems?

You never said if you have any diagnosed issues or if this is luraber pain (I don't think?) but I like yourself, wake up every night in serious pain from my luraber region.

I've found that if I fall asleep on my back with my legs straight - that's the biggest cause of my pain. I also found that by sleeping in a fetal position I get the best night sleep.

I would recommend that before you attempt to get out of bed, lie on your back and bring your knees to your chest, pull in and hold a few seconRAB then release. Rest and do this 3 or 4 times to warm your spine up before jumping out of bed.

Try to ditch the drugs, listen to your pain don't mask it, I also use adhesive heat patches when the pain is really bad (this works really well for me) and go see a consultant if it hasn't already resolved.

Good luck

Chris
