Waiting for the E90, E70 or E61 now?

Its been a while since Ive had a symbian device. Ive had many Treos, and a few blackberries (now using a 7130c), a WM phone and a SE910 that ran Symbian UIQ.

The E90 looks like it could be the perfect device. I do like my BB, but I would like WiFi on my phone so I can take advantage of the VoIP SIP client in places where I can not get a signal.

I know the E90 will have Symbian S60 v3, so I would like to get either an E70 or E61 now to begin evaluating some of the software I will need and also test out the usability of the SIP client. Can anyone suggest which device would be closest to the FUNCTIONALITY of the E90. I know the form factor of each device is vastly different, but I would like to get as familiar as possible with the S60 OS and UI to see if the E90 will be a good fit. I am mostly interested in using a telnet client (TN5250) as well as how well the PIM/mail sync with my exchange server using either BBC or intellisync solution. All suggestions and comments welcome.

No. UIQ is the touchscreen UI you had on your P910 and Series60 is the UI found on all Nokias that's based on directional navigation.

It'll be the best experience you've had with any phone, even the E70 or E61 until the E90.

i understand the UIQ is not S60v3. I used to think that I HAD to have a touch screen, but my last 2 berries have not had them, and to tell you the truth, i like NOT having a darn stylus.
Will any software that runs on the E61 or E70 run on the E90? (I understand it might be implemented differently on the larger inside screen).

I guess the reason for the thread is to mostly find out if either of these devices would be a good one to test out software. Case in point:

Probably the most needed app for me besides phone and PIM is the ability to run a telnet application that supports 5250 datastreams. I use it to support the servers in our data center and other customers. There arent that many companies that produce this software for the mobile phone market (mochasoft.dk and idokorro.com). I have used both. Mochasoft has a version listed for the E61 on their website, when I emailed their support to see of they would have a version to run on the E90 they said no.

The other thing I need much more info about it wireless sync to Exchange. I didnt realize what a pain it is to sync my phone until I started using blackberries. I love how everything just shows up, and if someone puts an appt on my calendar, it ends up on my handheld. So, my other big issue to test is how best to accomplish this with a S60 device. It looks like there are a few different options (BBC, Intellisync ), so Id like to play with these (or other solutions) to see which one most closely mimics how the BB works. For me its NOT just about push mail (POPing a mail account every few minutes is pretty close), its more about everything syncing for me.

Are you a phone nut like myself? If yes, than wait for the E90, cause when it comes out you will regret that you didn't wait and pine after it.

Im a nut in general and a phone nut as well. I plan to get an E90 (I have one preordered at expansys.com), but thought id get either an E61 or E70 to play with until the E90 comes out.

have you used any S60 3rd or any S60 before??? if not, then consider this:

1) you need to get acquainted with the very basics of it, to do that the E50 will be more than enough and all the software that runs on the E50, you will see them the same as in the E90 front side

2) once you are familiar with the basics of E50, it is like you have been through the outside part of the E90, but the thing is, what is inside is only the extension of what you see outside, it will be the same, with only a larger land area and some few additional windows to fully make use of the wide screen of the E90

3) qwerty on the E61 and E70, for that matter, will not be that close enough to the E90. The time you spent on these device's qwerty will NOT give you any added advantage when you start using E90, coz the layout are not the same, and key shortcuts are also not the same

4) and as i have mentioned in that other thread, E50 is cheap, save your money for the E90, you will DEFINITELY gonna need it! unless of course you are as rich as bill gates...

I would go with the E61 as the E70 is plagued with "out of memory" issues. The E61 has the best thumboard i've used and it's a pure joy to surf the web on it. I've had multiple, graphic intensive websites open with no issues on an E61.

You wont be dissapointed. I've regretted selling mine the day I packed it in a shipping box. I actually just ordered an E62 for work! I would have gone with the E61 in a heartbeat but work wont cover beyond what I paid. I dont have much use for wifi right now as i'm moving soon so this will do me just fine.
