Wait, so the Israelis shot people on board before helicoptering in

Clusterfuck of a situation.

CLIFFS:
1. America wants democracy in Palestine.
2. Palestinian people elect Hamas.
3. America doesn't support Hamas and labels them a terror group.
4. Democracy is in Palestine, but not really because we don't support the elected party.

Oh, and this shit was bogus. Israel allows aid but it has to flow through their ports. These hippies were intentionally trying to (and saying they were going to) sail past the blockade. Obviously this would piss off the IDF. Israel is sick of getting blasted with rockets and being threatened by the likes of Iran.

However, shooting at the ship, boarding it in international waters, executing people, etc. doesn't really bring good PR for the cause.

The entire situation was fucked from the start. Those people played with a snake and got bit...

Two dumb asses mortar an American base and run into a family of 5's house.

American soldiers approach and are shot at.

The house is destroyed by a tank.

The news on Al-Jazeera in the morning = "American soldiers bomb a family of 7 hiding in their home yesterday"

lol great story. so the jews got kicked out long ago by getting defeated and having empires split up the land. and that's fine. and now the people who own the land decide to give some of the land that they own back to the jews so they kick out the palestinians. but that's not fine?

@ you trying to make fun of someone's intelligence with your fucking atrocious grammar

Nelson Mandela was a terrorist and did nothing to stop the slaughter of thousands of white farmers by blacks once his government assumed power. He is no fucking saint

Ok so they assassinated people....but why those people out of everyone, and why that particular ship?

That's a really good question and it strikes to the core of the conflict. It all depends on whether you support a technicality, or an ethical issue.

The British had the land fairly after the Ottoman Empire fell, but they didn't really interrupt the core community for quite awhile. The British made a commitment "before" they actually owned the land, that they would give pieces to various groups, but in the end they gave the entire area of interest to just the Jews. This entire process was organized between multiple countries over 30 years, with many treaties, a mandate, and an "immediate" shift in land ownership.

I simplified things greatly, but it's excessively complex politically and comes down to whether a promise should have been kept to the Palestinians/Arabs, or whether the Jews are entitled to the land simply because it was given to them legally by the owners.

A political promise, vs a legal technicality. I'm a man who keeps promises, are you guys?

First off I don't really view US military history as some sort of precedent setter which justifies the actions of nations today, but just to be clear you're trying to compare the US setting up a blockade to prevent Soviet ships from reaching Cuba because of that whole nuclear weapons thing, to Israel trying to prevent Turkish peace activists from delivering food and medical supplies to a people under a military occupation and illegal blockade ?

And what do you mean they'd have no choice but to sink the ship . I don't really care about "international law", but even under it Israel would not have been justified in sinking a ship that goes through its blockade because Gaza is not considered a nation, it's part of Israel.

Do any worse ? I'd say killing 19 peace activists is bad enough. They could have done worse but it wouldn't have been as easy for them to put the right PR spin on it as they successfully managed to do here. "TURKISH SHIP BREAKS NAVAL BLOCKADE,SOLDIERS ATTACKED WHEN BOARDING SHIP,ACT IN SELF DEFENSE"

www.debkafile.com is the best source of news from the area I've found. Obviously there is some biased since most of the countries in the area filter all media that leaves the country but generally it's pretty unbias and will call out any country that's doing some shit.

thread title is misleading
I watched the video
before they board, no israeli is shooting anything but paintballs from what I can tell
