Wait or go Custom ROM

Im a HTC hero user and loving it and long time reader first time poster. But with the N1+2.x with all its features compared to 1.5 im currently on with hero im starting to feel alittle behind and I only got my phone about 8 months ago...

I look at n1 and the bravo and I am tempted to upgrade which is bad for my bank account but as 2.x is the biggest reason to upgrade I could put it off if I could go 2.x on hero..

So Do i wait till late march(i believe??) for htc to upgrade my hero or should I not bother waiting and go with a custom rom now?

Am i right in thinking that there is no custom roms on 2.x that have all features working? (if not which are they)

And I am currently Rooted, So whats the major steps to take in going to a new rom form here (im not looking for a step by step guy just a point in the right direction)
 
I'm running 2.1 on a rooted G1 and I have to say it's a real mixed bag.

All the features work but its a bit laggy at times and the phone reboots randomly on occasion. Honestly if you want a smooth running phone just stay where your at. As soon as a official 2.x build is released i'll be on it.
 
i might be bias towards root because all my androids are rooted, if u dont mind waiting another 3 months maybe 2 for the update then stay stock
