Wait for iPhone to be unlocked or..

??? Remember back when the Razr came out?? It was like $300 and only available through ATT/Cingular. Now every carrier has the Razr, and they only cost about $30 with new contract, or free a lot of the times. It's inevitable, as technology ages, and competitors release "superior" products, the price has to drop to stay in the game.

the razr was 599 with a new contract when it first came out, and had much shorter contracts with att, 90 days IIRC, as is the case with most. Apple has at least 2 years exclusive with att

Ok, so wait 2 years, then get the iPhone. Really, it boils down to this: do you NEED the iPhone? Or is it something you can wait for??

Personally, I'll keep my Razr that I got for free until my contract is up.

its still not guaranteed when of if it will go to other carriers
waiting for technology is just retarded. by the time you get it something else will be better and cheeper and you missed out on enjoying the old product.

razr

Tell that to all the people who ran out to buy an HD/DVD player or Blu-Ray player when one or the other is phased out in a year or two. Kinda like everyone who ran out in the '80's to buy a Betamax.

As for my Razr, it turns on, makes calls, and receives calls. Basically it does what I need it to do, and it was free. Sorry I don't buy into the technology fanboy shit like some of you other mindless idiots.

and they get to enjoy them. while others just keep waiting and never get one. theres always something better coming out, waiting for the next one is the worst excuse ever in technology. as soon as the net one comes out they're already working on its replacement, and of course you'll want those features so you just keep waiting

I guess it's this thing I have called self-control. If I want something, but don't absolutely NEED it, I don't rush right out to get it just because it's fucking shiny and new. That's why I still have good old CRT tvs in my house. They still work, so no need in replacing them, just like my phone.

I'm so glad I waited for the 50% price cut on the video iPods!

So cheap now!

Point being this is Apple. It will be interesting to see how the prices work with their hardware.

if the production cost is genuinely in the 250 dollar range, the retail price is not going to drop much. It might drop by 100 bucks after a year. So fucking what?

Well, I will say that when the iPods first came out, they were in the range of $500 new. At least that's what my wife paid for her 3rd Gen 20GB version. So the price has dropped considerably, even with the added features of the newer models.

Only problem I see coming, being that it IS an Apple product, is that they will make an updated model, and keep the price the same, have a blowout sale on the remaining inventory of the older model, and that will be the last you see of it. Just like when they switched from PPC to Intel in their computers. So a drastic price reduction is very likely in a couple of years when they upgrade the current model.

I think he missed the point that some people are perfectly happy buying last years model at a deep discount. Some of us don't get a hard on over the latest and greatest technology.
