well my phone is messing up. when i turn it on, the screen turns white, and stays white. i can feel the start up vibrate thing, but then the screen still stays white. can anyone help me?

is the phone water damaged? if you have insurance or are still under warranty, i'd suggest taking the phone to be looked at by SE or your service provider

The so-called "white screen of death"...it usually happens to W600's that are carrier locked to Cingular. Just have your phone's firmware flashed and it should fix the problem. Or if you just got it recently from Cingular, you can just have it replaced. However, the W600 is on backstock right now...don't actually know when a new shipment will be coming in. The substitute for the moment is the Samsung D807. But arrangements sometimes can be made with a supervisor if you would like a different phone other than the sustitute.

thanx, at least now i know im not the only one that had it. but how do i get my firmware flashed?

If you still have warranty on the phone, you can have it shipped to the Sony Ericsson service center (I believe it is in Indianapolis). The only thing that you would have to pay is shipping. Or you can do it through another company eg iunlock.com. Another is to find someone who can do it in your area professionally. I would suggest that you can do it yourself, but I'm guesing that this would be your 1st time...better to let someone else do it whose done it before. Oytherwise you might just have a glorified paperweight. Hope that helps.

I have had 2 cell phones that got the "white screen of death": a Motorola and a Nokia. Both were on the Cingular network. I had to send them in for replacements.

No one knows what causes the "white screen of death". I don't think anyone really cares. It's easier to replace the phone than to figure out what causes it.

You can do the some or all of the following in various combinations and orders (but they usually do not work):
1. turn the phone off and then turn it back on
2. charge the phone's battery
3. remove the battery, wait 10 minutes, put the battery back in
4. inspect the electrical contacts of the cell phone, battery and/or SIM card and see if they need to be cleaned.
5. replace the battery with a new battery
6. get a new SIM card
7. flash the phone's ROM

Google "white screen" "cell phone" and you get 83,300 hits. So, it's not like it happens that often. I have one theory about what may cause a cell phone to mysteriously stop working: leaving it in a hot car where the temperature may get up to 200 degrees - especialy if the cell phone is plugged into its charger.

If you call the cell phone manufaturer's tech support they will probably walk you through items 1 through 4 from above. If those 4 things don't work, they will probably tell you it is not fixable. If they can get you to say one of the following:
1. The cell phone was dropped
2. The cell phone was exposed to moisture (it got wet)
3. The cell phone was exposed to very hot or very cold temperature ("very" is an undefined amount of temperature)
4. You attached the phone to a computer (this is a new question they have started asking)
They the will probably not honor the warranty. If you have insurance (almost always with at least a $50 deductable) it will cover those 4 situations.

After having my W600 for 6 months without ever receiving this problem, I was preparing it to give to a relative so I connected the usb cable to it. Once completed my transfer of data, I disconnected with resulted in a WSOD. No matter what I did it remained.

I decided to go to sonyericsson's website and download the software update. After running it, the phone restarted perfectly., VOILA!

You may choose to do the same :)

Good luck.

I had the same problem, i went to the support site and downloaded the software and after several attempts of "holding down C" my phone got updated and now works. thanx for the tip! :D
