If getting sued is the issue for you, none of the bittorrent clients are going to help you directly. You would need a special firewall add-on of some kind that blocks specifically offending IP addresses from government agencies and anti-p2p organizations. You're more likely to find this add-on for Vuze.
I have been a Vuse (formerly Azureus) user for a long time, and prefer it over anything else because of its versatility and simplicity. I think it went the wrong direction when it moved from being a simple client to an "everything" application, but I still prefer its underlying technology and can use the "classic" interface when activated from the options menu.
If download size or space is an issue, UTorrent is of course a high standard. I have never had any respect for the client called "bittorrent."
