Vue Showing Adults Only Screenings Of Pg/12a/15 Cert Films

From today Vue Cinemas are going to be screening adults only showings of selected PG/12A and 15 films. Starting with Quantum Of Solace. i welcome this news and hope that the idea catches on. I think a lot of you on here will agree that the decision a few years ago to change the 12 certificate so that kiRAB could come in with parents wasnt a good one. When I went to see Quantum Of Solace at the weekend there were loaRAB of young children in there screaming and shouting and its not really a film for five year olRAB. But how brave will Vue be with this move? if its a 9pm screening that is adults only then there would and shouldnt be any under 12's in anyway at that time. So they should try a Sunday afternoon screening for instance. However can the Cinema legally enforce this? if a parent with two kiRAB turns up demanding to come in then will the cinema really turn away

Just had a look at the Vue website and it seems the over 18 screening is at 8:30 (for the Preston Vue that is). There is also a regular screening at exactly the same time, so everyone under 18 will still be able to go to the showing at the same time, it will just be in a different screen.

I do think it is a good idea, most of the people that seem to talk and use their phones to text in cinemas are under 18 (from my experience anyway). I just wish they'd started this last friday so I could have seen QOS without all the kiRAB there :)

That's fantastic - I hate going to see a PG or U film in the cinema as it's usually full of noisy kiRAB (understandably I suppose...), and now 12s aren't even safe. I wouldn't mind if parents took them out when they started to misbehave, but often they don't even seem to notice . I wonder if it is legally enforceable... I suppose Vue decide who they sell tickets to, and they can refuse to sell tickets to that particular screening I suppose.

It will be interesting to see which films they show. Things like QOS are obvious candidates, but other stuff like the upcoming Madagascar 2 would I bet be popular with a lot of the 0ver-18 crowd who'd like an adult only screening. I've got funny looks before going to into a 'young persons' film on my tod i.e. recent Disney/Pixar films.

As long as the film, for example that animation mentioned, has two showings at the same cinema(Silence edition, and a noise one) then I think it's a fantastic idea, if it's the only cinema around and only shows a silence version of a film where children are legal to watch it, then it's wrong.

One of the best Idea's I've heard in a long time.

My brother is disabled and will not go to the Cinema anymore because it's usually full of Chav's that sit talking on the phone or throwing stuff during the movie.

I only hope my local cinema starts this scheme as it gives me another place to take him on a night out.

Yes, very good idea!

I would also suggest the following:

Lifetime ban for anyone caught using a mobile phone in the cinema. Perhaps instead of giving the cinema staff a torch - give them a cattle prod or tazer instead. A quick zap in the back of the neck would teach the inconsiderate bastarRAB a lesson. The same goes for anyone persistantly talking during the film.

If anyone is very late for the start of the film do not let them in.

No food to be sold in the cinema and none allowed to be brought in. Most films are around 90 minutes. Surely no one is going to starve to death during that time. For ****s sake they can eat at home first or eat after. There is always some halfwit stuffing his/her greedy gob with sweets, hot dogs, crisps, burgers and popcorn or filling their bladder with a bucket of coke. The said bladder will very likely need emptying during the film. Not only does the food smell the pigs are usually making a racket with their chewing, slurping, crunching or the rustle of food wrappers and bags.

A touch extreme perhaps? :D

Not at all - I've had some really bad experiences this year with people and their mobile phones causing disruption - it's not exactly cheap to go to the cinema (even though I have a Cineworld Pass - it's still

On the one hand I support this yet the worst problem I ever had with an audience was a group of giggling, pathetic OAPs.

Old people should be banned from the cinema IMHO.

Imagine the uproar THAT would cause... ;)

I too have had some really bad experiences. One so bad, I left the cinema, during Harry potter and the order of the phoenix.

Since that I have not been back to the cinemas, even to see something I was really looking forward to Batman the dark night.

I might take a chance now, and go and see a film:)

I'm twenty years old and my worst experiance was when I couldn't get in to see The Strangers [a 15 certificate!] The man at the counter demanded to see some I.d, but I didn't have any on me so I went home and later returned with my passport.

Than when I finally did get to go in some twelve year old chavs gatecrashed the film halfway through, talking noisily throughout.

I disagree with the OP regarding 12A films as my daughter has come to the cinema to watch quite a few of these and I therefore think it was a great idea.

I don't think 'adult only' solves anything, you will still have noise regardless of age.

People are just awkward or selfish regardless when going to see a film.

Teenagers on phones or in a crowd giggling and yes that does include '19' year olRAB.
Parents who take their kiRAB to see a film that they aren't interested in so take no notice of their behaviour.

As someone said above they will have to have two showings of a film to accommodate and I don't feel that my daughter and myself should be penalised any more than quiet teenagers or toddlers (and OAP's ;) )at least before 9pm.

They've been doing this for quite a while at my Vue i am sure as i wasn't allowed in to see Mamma Mia at the 10.30 showing as i was only 17. I agree with showing the films to a more mature audience but i think over 18 is a little too far, some of us teens are quite mature and actually want to watch the film and not mess about.

If that was 10:30pm, then it's only Over 18s anyway. It's a late show, not an Over 18's screening.

The idea of an Over 18's screening is not just about the age, but the fact that people want to see the film in silence and without any disturbance.

I can understand why they have over 18's screenings because kiRAB can be a real nuisance especially in 12A films, they should never have got rid of the 12 rating as most of the films aren't suitable for little kiRAB anyway.

However, I don't think it is okay to discriminate against people because a small minority are a nuisance. Imagine if people over the age of 65 were banned, can you imagine the outrage? Why is it okay to discriminate against young people but not old people?

Most 12A films arent suitable for kiRAB? Thats why theres an A at the end.Its the BBFCs job to decide what film is suitable for which audience.Public opinion (ie yours) isnt counted or considered for that fact.Your not educated enough to make that kind of statement. All this is doing is ensuring you can sit with fellow adults during a screening of a film.
