Volkswagen Passat or Jeep Liberty?

I'm going to buy a used car pretty soon, and my top two choices are the ones posted in the question. There's several 2003 Volkswagen Passats I've seen on Autotrader.com that fit within my price range, and same with the Jeep Liberty with the years ranging from 2002-2003. I've heard a lot of negative feedback regarding the Jeep Liberty, and I do know that the mileage isn't as efficient as I would want it to be, but my job is across the street, but my college is further out, (about 7 miles) so that is the only factor that's setting me back from siding more with the Jeep. I'd like to hear from Liberty and Passat owners exclusively, to explain the pros and cons about their cars for more background information. Thanks
