Voicemail icon stuck

is there a way to clear the voicemail icon from my status bar? i was checking my voicemail, pressed 7 to delete the message and then hit the red button. phone froze and eventually turned itself off. now the voicemail is deleted, but my voicemail icon is still at the top.

i've rebooted the phone and the icon is still there. i've also dialed the voicemail and hung up, still there. any ideas?

This happened to me a few days ago and the VM icon just won't go away. Normal clearing methods don't work. When VM is the only notification, the "Clear Notifications" button doesn't even appear. When there are multiple notifications, all icons clear except the VM icon. Resetting the phone doesn't work. Selecting VM from the notifications pull-down dials VM correctly, but again it does not clear the VM notification. Pesky thing.

Any suggestions?

I have had this exact same thing happen to me a few months ago. Nothing I could do to make it go away. However, it just disappeared on its own after about a week. Hang in there, hopefully the same will happen for you.

This is the ONLY way to fix this... What happened is the network sent the message to clear the voicemail alert (VM alerts are nothing more than masked SMS's) however the phone hung or didn't process it. T-Mobile's OLD voicemail platform would always send a clear VM message if you called and got the "No new messages", the new platform (circa 2006) doesn't. So the only way to fix is dial the phone, leave a message and then play it back and delete. Sucks - couldn't get any T-Mobile escalation techs to understand that it used to always force send the VM message cleared when you called and had no messages.

BTW: VM pending messages are left on the SIM card, NOT the phone. Which is why reboots don't fix it. The G1 is properly reading the VM status as unread messages so it will re-display the indicator.

Funny thing was, when I had this problem, even this method did not work for me. I was really surprised. I would clear all notifications, send myself a text, and I would immediately get two notifications, one for the stuck message and one for the new message. Quite annoying. Anyway, I am glad it worked for you.

I read every thread and finally gave up. Then I stumbled upon settings/call/clear voicemail notifications. Yep, that simple. Go figure!
