IM coming from a tmobile dash (updated to Voice command 6), and the nokia n80's voice command is useless compared to that. It never works, ive tried resetting the "voice adapt" and still its crap. I was wondering if there was a way to "train" it or if im doign something wrong. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I've heard a couple things regarding the speaker-independent voice dialing on these devices, but I don't know how much of it is true. I had heard that depending on your phone's regional firmware (EURO or APAC), the voice recognition will respond accordingly. So, an APAC firmware and language pack will respond to an Asian dialect and the same for a EURO firmware.

In my experience, my N73 used to recognize EVERYTHING I said without a problem when I was running a EURO firmware, but since iunlock locked me into an APAC firmware, I've had a lot of trouble with it.

What is this "voice adapt" you speak of? I don't think I've ever heard of such a thing?

Wirelessly posted (Nokia N73 ME: Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.1; U; en-us) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413)

Ha ha, and my experience was opposite. I had more luck with my APAC f/w, but since flashing to Euro1, not so much...

Yea, I have no clue man. I really have a very neutral accent. I grew up in the southern US, and I've intentionally quashed any accent I had when I was younger.

The voice adapt thing, as far as I can figure, tries to identify the correct pronunciations based on which numbers it's allowed to dial when it's used. My problem now is just that it rarely recognizes what I'm say and so it never attempts to dial anything.

In my expierience, I find that I have too many contacts and I think it conflicts with everything. Because I dont have "John Smith" for example, instead I have "John Cell" and "Jennifer Cell" etc etc etc.....

But even after having it for so long bottom line is it works half of the time

What I would love to do is not let EVERY SINGLE CONTACT have a voice command and only the ones that I want. That would be great.... Or at least have a way to train certain ones. Just my opinion anyway....

I've had my N80 since last May and I find the voice command has improved greatly. It claims in the manual that it adapts itself to the main user and mine certainly has to the degree that it's aquired something of my accent. To start with it was pretty useless though so persevere.

No I'm not actually.... I'm old school Phones didnt always have multiple entries for a single contact, and I just never adapted the multiple entry deal. So I have John Cell, John Line, John Business, etc.... It just works for me

Having your contacts arranged that way, ironically, makes sense for using such a thing as voice commands and speed dialing since there can be no room for error as to which number you're attempting to call, but not if the damn thing doesn't recognize anything you say anyway!
