Vodafone iPhone 3Gs Problem?

Just bought my iPhone today and was told my sim wouldn't be activated 'till 8. Went through the correct registration steps but got the message "Waiting for activation, this could take some time". This has been going on for two hours, please could somebody explain how I can get the thing working!
 
As with all sim cards they can take up to 24 hours to activate. If after this time you should go back to where you bought it and ask why it has not been connected, also it could be an idea to turn the phone off and back on, do this every few hours as it refreshes the phone to look for a signal.
