VLC Media player help?

Recently when using VLC Media Player it is showing everything in minimal view. When I change it back it will return to minimal when I close it and open again!!! Also I used to have a little menu (full screen mode) that popped up when I moved the cursor, this has now disappeared and I have to come out of full screen to skip, and change volume etc.

Does anyone know how to get it back to the way I used to have it?
I have tried restoring defaults!!!

When you start a video playing, right-click in the screen for a menu to go full screen.

Also, Tools, Preferences, Video -> tick full screen option.
