In the wake of Shoujo Beat's end as a magazine, Viz soft-launched today their newest venture, Viz Signature IKKI. The IKKI part comes from Monthly IKKI, Shogakukan's monthly seinen, or young men's, magazine where all the online mag's titles will come from. New chapters will be released every week online via http://sigikki.com and, if a title is popular enough, it will be released in graphic novels via the Viz Signature imprint, hence the full name.

The first, and only, title out right now is Children of the Sea, in which you can read the first chapter here and an interview with its creator, Daiuske Igarashi, here. More titles and the full slate will be announced at San Diego Comic-Con before IKKI's full launch in August, with mentions to Natsume Ono

This is all well and fine, but I think Viz should focus on adding more female oriented content. If it gets more interesting content, I'll check Ikki out, but it's not going to make up for the loss of Shojo Beat.

I think this is great news. IKKI has a lot of titles I'd never thought would see the light of day here in the States (a lot of the manga that runs in the magazine is on the alternative, avant-garde side of things), but now there's a chance. Good job, Viz.

Maybe if this works for them they could revive Shojo beat as an online Magazine? Shojo beat did not sell bad it just lost money because too many of the people buying it bought subscriptions (I think)
