Viz prices on the rise!?

So the prices are going to be the same price on like every other series released outside the Shonen Jump label? Oh well, I pay for more expensive Manga so this doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I don't buy a whole lot of manga and Borders indulges in good sales, so it probably won't affect me too much. Between this and Shojo Beat's end though, it does show that Viz apparently feels the need to take special measures to keep itself viable. Not that this means that they're in mortal danger, just that they're getting hurt by the current economic climate--which they cite in their official statement on why Shojo Beat got canceled.

The thing is though, what few titles I actively collect are actually Del Rey titles, and they already charge more than Viz. Which is fine, since the quality is great and I know that I'm getting what I pay for.

while i can see them having to make that shift to do lower circulation and thus less breaks on print costs, it also puts them in the uncomfortable position of being as expensive as other lines that are often providing unedited content (where as some of the jump titles are edited for things like smoking and such.) i doubt it'll actually effect sales too much, but it's another sign that viz is in survivor-mode. you don't cut a magazine and bump prices on the line that is working for you unless you're trying to fix a balance sheet. the fact they are having to do this after Naruto Nation moved hundreRAB of thousanRAB of volumes of manga is awfully worrisome actually - they should be flush right now, current climate aside.

of course, if they really want to start fixing their bottom line company wide, they to follow funimation's lead on the DVD tip and move exclusively to season sets already. some dirt cheap reissues might not be a bad idea either.

I pretty much only snag SJA titles anymore... when I can afford it (which is not right now T_T). Gintama's already a buck more than everything else - altough not as much as Trigun Maximum the last volume of which I still need to pick up, now that I'm thinking about it. >.>

Doesn't affect me all that much. One Piece and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure are the only titles outside of the Viz Big stuff that I'm buying from them.

This will only matter to me if they keep the Shojo Beat imprint. All my Viz stuff is SB.

But I guess the increase is not as bad as Tokyopop: up a couple bucks AND the switch to crappy paper.

I can't help but wonder if the price increase and the end of Shojo Beat is because Viz is planning on paying CN big bucks to finish Naruto and run Naruto Shippudden (THEORY).

Naruto's already starting to decline without TV exposure. Viz has to be recognizing that.

Yeah, I know, Naruto sucks, and I'm not a fan of Bleach which is why I skip those chapters and read everything else, like One Piece, and Bo^7, and that's about it. I haven't read Shonen Jump in a while.
