Viz Now Accepting Submissions for Comics Outside Japan

Indeed. There's pro's and con's to each method, but the thing I REALLY REALLY wish American comic book companies would adopt is an open submission policy. If Bakuman is to be believed, all you need to do to get your stuff considered for Jump is call Shueisha and set up an appointment. If they like your manuscript (they want a completed chapter or three - not just a few pages and concepts and a synopsis), or feel you have potential they'll work with you.

That's all but unheard of here unless you're already in the industry.
 
To reiterate what was previously stated, if you submit an original creation to Tokyopop, among other things, you have to surrender all "moral" rights to your creation, which means they can do whatever they want with it.

This being said, I hope Viz won't repeat TP's errors. Furthermore, regardless if it's manga style or not, I also hope that Viz won't insult the readers' intelligence by trying to market it as "manga". They once said that they define "manga" as "comics made in Japan" (unlike TP who outright stated their opinion that "manga" is merely a "state of mind"). However, this IS Viz we're talking about here. Translation inconsistancies with their titles aside, "Shonen Jump Graphic Novels" is now marketed as "Shonen Jump Manga" (the same is done with their Shojo Beat line). For this reason, I personally wouldn't put anything past them.

In any case, I do hope that with this program, Viz won't resort to the "mine, mine, mine" stance that TP had ultimately taken. My understanding is that TP lost a lot of popularity after the news broke...

Hmmm, I want to see if Viz can do a make your own comic on their web sit (Kinda like TP is doing), not selling it stores, but for fun. And it will help Viz to find some decent artist and writers by doing so.

But, it seems this idea Viz having won't be coming out anytime soon. So, like I said I will wait and see the outcome over this.
Though, I'm a little worry that Viz might say "Yes" to everything. I really don't want to see all the comics that Viz putting are putting put are all High-school love stories (I'm not saying its bad, but if its a same-old-plot that has been done before, than I might getting a little mad).

Another thing I'm worry about is how are they going to sell it? I know the openminded ppl will give it a chance, but the hard-cores? They are hard to sell. They want this, they want that, they don't want this, they don't want that.



I was thinking about that too. I might do that.



But how about the other companies in japan? I know some are the same, but how about the monthly manga's? Not all of them do the same thing. Weekly? Maybe so. But monthly? Hmmm.
 
Monthly mangas just have more pages then weekly ones do, but their both published in magazines the same way by the very same companies, why would they do things differently from weekly to monthly?
