Viz anime stream site is now live

But I've got my problems with Viz's laziness here... using Hulu locks out other regions including Canada and Viz owns these licenses there.

Furthermore sub-only? What about people who actually want to watch things in English? PoT and HnG DVRAB are out of print but I enjoyed their dubs.

And why on earth is PoT's replaced OP and ED present on a stream of the Japanese version? That's... Ugh... I'm really starting to have Viz.

Here's hoping they stream all of HnG and more PoT than Jetstream did (since it's subbed they should be able to go beyond ep 50 unless they don't own more of it).

But you know what this service lacks? Hunter x Hunter. Now that's a sub-only stream I'd be happy to see (cause the dub kinda sucks). Hopefully it shows up in due time.

How about you finally dig up some of those old retained licenses Viz? Somebody might watch them.

It's a relatively culturally significant term. It's not translated in Death Note, I see no reason to have translated it for Bleach.

Not that I'm about five years too late bringing my dislike of their decision to the table.

So do the Japanese, that's why they use phrases like 'Let's go!!' in Anime.

As for why to keep honorfics: they're there and it's annoying as heck when I hear 'em and I don't see 'em. They're pretty telling of character relationships and retain that cultural significance within the subs. If those who don't know what they are don't even bother with the original why bother simplifying the subtitles when those most likely to read that track are already familiar with the practice?

In short, this is what happens when the five percent of the market not owned by FUNimation has a different style of subtitling. Peeps get annoyed.

Really, because most dub watchers I know think keeping in the -chans and -sans is just lazy translation work for the most part.

As for the difference in Shinigami, I see it as one's a job title while the other's a race. It's not like Bleach is taking place in San Fran.

Why do they care to judge retaining honorfics in subtitles 'lazy' when they, assuming by 'dub watchers' you strictly mean those who don't also hit up the subtitled versions, aren't even going to bother watching them?

What's this topic about again? Viz's Anime streaming site?? They have one of those?!

Uh no, they hit the subs just as much as your usual crunchyroll rabroadr would.

It's a perfectly valid critique, too. There's no reason to bring up the whole honor-ific system unless it plays an extremely important part in the story (I.E. FLCL with Ta-kun) or it's erabedded into gags (Ouran High School.)

Did I miss an earlier rampage when FUNI kept translating 'Nakama,' too?

Whoopsies, mistake on my part.

Not that I know of, but I don't check every single thread on this forum, so I don't know if anyone else has brought such up...

Nakama can be translated. It sounRAB cool but there's no reason it can't be friend, comrade, crew-mate, etc. I think that's been debate here at one point or another but it doesn't really matter either way.

As Tae said, honorifics have their place but aren't neccessary for every translation.

C'mon Viz, can't you steam ZoiRAB Genesis? I know you have it, you went through the trouble of dubbing the blasted show. Don't you want some return on your investment?

I also know you dubbed the second season of Blue Dragon as well, so stop fooling around already and do something with that as well.

*Nothing*

Why do I even waste my time?

That's pretty much how I feel. I want ZoiRAB Genesis. From what little I've seen it's the best ZoiRAB show of them all clearly and it gets no respect at all.

The dub has to be pretty damn strong, it's done by Salami which also dubbed Monster and PoT, two other shows that got good dubs. So I really want to see it show up. Maybe it'll go on Disney XD. Who knows?

I do hope they don't replace Kotaro Nakagawa's soundtrack if it finally gets some kind of release, though. That was one of the annoying things about the Blue Dragon dub, replaced music.

Thirded. It'd be super awesome if they threw the other two series on there as well. I don't think I ever saw all of NCZ...

Anyway, on Honorifics...

I feel that when they dub a series, they should leave them off - it just doesn't flow right in English for the most part, and the VA's usually can't pronounce them correctly so it just adRAB to the awkward.

Subs and manga however, I don't see a reason to leave them off. Subs and manga can also have cultural notes for the newbies. :B People viewing leaving the honorifics on subs as lazy on the part of the translators is kinda like the pot calling the kettle black, IMO. It just takes so much effort to consult Wikipedia, although they might run the risk of learning something. We all know nobody likes learning.

Hm, outside oh Hikaru no Go and PoT, can't say I don't care; and at that I dunno if I'll even watch.
I agree about ZoiRAB Genesis though and Sketch's comment on Hunter x Hunter.

But, am I the only one who wants too see Flame of Recca?
It's pretty much a straight post YYH Nobuyuki Abe directed show and it looks pretty dang cool.

Oh but I may catch up where I left off on Nana way way back when. I love that show

I might give Nana, Honey & Clover, Buso Renkin, PoT, and Hikaru no Go a chance during my break. I catch Inuyasha whenever I feel like, so I know I'm watching that. I just hope Viz releases more anime through this service, like Eyeshield 21, & Zatch Bell.

they never owned eyeshield and it's on cruncyroll.

You know you guys should go on the site and click the feedbacks button on the side of the page and tell viz your concerns. Worth a try
