VISTA!!! why buY?

wow assclown comes off as a true internet gangsta.

if it upsets you so much and and you have absouletly nothing productive to say why waste your time replying to the same thread 6 times?

how old are you 15?

But that may be the primary reason for doing so - the protection afforded the kernel, which supposedly will make virus infection almost nil, coupled with a robust firewall. So I say that if all you do is surf the internet, then that is the best reason to go with Vista. (Or Linux or OSX).

Gaming? Forget it, go with XP.
Graphics? (CAD/CAM, architecture, photoshop) Forget it, stay with XP.
Video transcoding? Forget it, go with XP.
Surfing the net?- go Vista.

I am upgrading because I am getting it for free.
I purchased a laptop in December - that came with a free upgrade coupon. I then purchased a copy of WMCE in Dec and used that to get another copy for my other computer.

The logic for the WMCE purchase was that it would be cheaper to purchase a copy of WMCE (OEM got it for $99) then to purchase a copy of Vista Premium when it came out.

But for the record, to the user that is already running WXP that doesn't have any free upgrades coming his way - I just can't recomend the purchase yet.
This is different then the change from 98 to XP. 98 ran like crap. Anyone remember the debacle of WME? There were real qualitative reasons to switch to XP.

XP runs fine.

Because all that information is marketing hype. The OP is assuming that there are people in here that have gotten it and installed it since its release. He wants to know if those people see advantages to having upgraded from XP to Vista.

Duh.
