About two or three weeks ago I got sick... It felt like the same junk I get at the same time every year... Coughing, congestion in my chest and nose, and headache. The only difference was for about 24hrs I had a fever of 102.
The next day, when I was fever free and feeling a bit better, I took a shower. While in the shower I noticed a VERY blue vein in the inside of my upper left arm. It freaked me right out, but then I thought; "Well, it isn't in plain site, maybe I just haven't noticed it before." But when I got out, I noticed A LOT of new veins all over my arms, hands, in my chest, and going down into my nipples... I let it ride for a couple of weeks with no change. Just this week, I am noticing them more. They are on my hips, lower back, legs, they are on the front of my neck coming up under my chin and I can see the veins connecting to the corners of my mouth. I can also see them creeping up into my palm.
I am known for being paranoid about medical things when they occur so I am not entirely sure if I am just completely scrutinizing myself and seeing things that have always been there, or if they really are turning up all over the place. After thinking on it, I really feel this is not standard operating procedure for my body.
I have been to one primary care physician who was supremely unhelpful. She said she had no idea, no recommendations, no nothing.
Other than getting jumpy about every little twitch and twinge that occurs in my body, I have no other symptoms - the veins are not raised (except on the back of my hand, but they have always been like that), they are not painful to the touch, I am not short of breath, I do not feel abnormal fatique or discomfort... I am just veiny.
I have read a lot about losing/gaining weight causing veins to appear, which I have not done for at least 6 months, and when I did it was only a loss of 4-5lbs. I have read a lot about it happening with age, but no indication of what age is considered "aging." I am 30 years old, I am 5'8" and weigh 152lbs, I smoke 3/4 a pack of cigarettes a day, and have for 11 years. I drink maybe 4 times a year, and a limited amount when I do. I am on "the pill" Yaz and have been for 1.75 years.
I have also read that hot showers can make them more visible, and boy do they become more visible in the shower, however, they don't ever go away. They are bright all day, just more so in the shower.
I am also rather pale. Not excrutiatingly, I just don't see the sun often, but I have been that way for YEARS.
I am getting a lot of advice to just chill and not worry about it unless other symptoms pop up, but I must admit that I am not interested in being a road map for my blood.
I apologize for the long-windedness of my post... I just wanted to cover all the bases and see if anyone out there had anything to contribute or suggest. If all I can gain from this is comfort that I am not alone, then I will take that too. (Maybe this will comfort someone else who reads this - I hope so).
Thanks in advance for taking time to read my post or respond.
