Wow.. watching the preview for Virtua Fighter 5 on gametrailer.com, and they mention the game won't have any online support on the PS3.

what a joke..

i wonder if there will be online play when the 360 version comes out.

1UP: I'm going to read between the lines here. Nice. Going back to the lack of online play for a moment, I know that AM2 has stated many times that the reason VF5 doesn't support online play is because the experience would be less than optimal, due to latency times and whatnot. But it doesn't take a mathematician to realize that if VF5 on home console did feature online play, that would threaten your thriving arcade business, which is dominant in Japan. After all, why would people pay to play and customize things in an arcade if they could do it for free at home online? How do you feel about that theory?

NS: That's totally not true. It is because of the delay experienced online, and because the environment and atmosphere of online play makes it impossible to re-create the gameplay as it is in the arcade version, and that's why we're not putting VF5 online.

hopefully xlink or something similar will come along to hack your way onto online play.. though going this route was always a pain in the ass to set up (at least with the PS2....)

WTF? Stupid much?
VF is made by Sega, not Sony.

And its a damn good thing its not online. Virtua Fighter would be COMPLETELY unplayable online. Its not a shit scrub game like DOA; even the smallest amount of lag would kill VF (and they even had to make the input timing even more forgiving for online mode in DOA4).

The 360 version will also NOT have any online play.

qft

so many variables working aginst online play as in terms of lag... the same will probably go for tekken 6, no online play. when you're down to maybe 2-3 frames to input moves/juggles/combos, even lag from your TV will throw you off (my TV throws me off hehe). I tried playing tekken DR online with my PSP and xlink. it was horrible. fun, but horrible.

i played DOA3 on xbox 360 online. slow as a mother fucker. i dont know how other fighting games look or play online, but it doesn't seem like it would work well due to lag

I was looking forward to VF5 but I may not buy it since there's no online play. None of my friends ever come over to play games and playing single player kinda sucks.

DOA3 wasn't bad online. I rarely experienced lag. You just had to find the right server or host it yourself if you had a good connection. Some servers were bad though.

I bet the 360 version will have online play because of XBOX Live If not, i'd be surprised.

it won't have online matches. the creator said he will never have vf5 online simply beacuse the game is so dependent on combos that are synced to the 60fps, and any sort of lag inherent to online games would total screw up the game. the only online feature would probably be leaderboards or something.

99% of 360 games have XBL features.

I doubt they'll release a fighter without XBL features. Downloadable content will be filling the marketplace while the Sony store remains empty.
