(Virgin Mobile: Samsung Intercept) How do you remove icons on the home screen?

You know how some icons or shortcuts (whatever they are called) are already in the home screen of the cell phone (Virgin Mobile: Samsun Intercept), how do you remove those? I already know how to add, but I don't know how to remove. Not completely remove from the cellphone. Just remove from the home screen.
