Hi I read a few weeks ago that Virgin media are going to start monitoring and reporting people who download copyrighted content. I'm just wondering out of pure curiousity if anyone knows when this is going to start ?
OK, even if it's not gonna be virgin doing the monitoring, when is it gonna start happening?

virgin media dont plan on doing this, other companies are planning on doing this, and then the companies send virgin media a court order to realease the name and address of the people who had that ip address at the time. and then they sue that person virgin media doesnt get involved with monitoring the network.

They and other ISPs monitor your downloads under the Fair Usage Policy and have done so for a long time.

If your doing excessive downloading then your flagged and it's checked. They don't actually report you but they will tell you that you are excessively downloading.

To give you an idea on usage I do very little downloading or streaming and I still use between 70 and 80 Gbs a month.

Don't forget you can be traced from where ever your downloading from by your IP address. Under the new laws Virgin and the other ISPs are now required to give your details to whoever needs them if criminal intent is involved.

Also downloading copyright material is basically Fraud with intent. The intent being not paying for it in the first place.
