Video problems even in VLC

I just downloaded (legit) Vista Business yesterday and installed it. I only have a couple videos on this computer, but one won't work. I know it's compressed with some type of codecs, as WMP "acquires" them. However, I tried it in VLC also, and it still only does audio. I upgraded all my drivers I found on windows update and even downloaded a new video driver off dell's website. Any ideas?

Ok downloaded it. Video codec XviD 1.0.3 isn't installed but is needed. First of all, what's the best pack to use that would have that that's not going to screw with my system? And shouldn't VLC work without that anyway?

VLC doesn't play well with vista yet

go to preferences > video > output modules and change it to either directx video output or opengl(if you have an ATI card dont try opengl)

make sure you have the advanced options box checked.
