I don't know about the exact process you have to go through to get this job, but I can tell you it will be very hard to get into it. It's very competitive. It doesn't matter how long you spend gaming - there are other things to take into account, for example testing a game is different to just playing a game - you have to have a lot of patience and do very repetitive tasks to find the glitches, so the novelty of playing games for a living will quickly wear off! You'll also have to be able to report on what you've found so you'll have to have good writing and communication skills.
It also depends what you do at college. If you're doing something to do with gaming or computing you're more likely to be hired as a games tester. Similarly if you have any contacts in the industry you could try and get a job by going to them. I think in reality most people who have this job have got it by developing contacts in the industry, not just by filling in an application form. Also, I don't think anyone would hire you just because you have read a "study guide" about the job.
Look the job up on the internet and see what information you can find about it. Just bear in mind there may be hundreds of people applying when there's a job opening, so there's a high chance you won't get it. I'd say pursue this but make sure you have a back up career plan in case!
