Video Converter

I'd recommend Videora for ipod. It's free and converts to the resolution you need (480x320). Also, it's easy to use, you can queue files (to do many overnight), and it has plenty of options.

I use mediacoder. I don't know about what video containers/filetypes the video player will play - but I guarantee you that mediacoder can convert to it.

I just downloaded one called Super C. I saw someone post it on tmonews, and I followed the directions on how to use it. It could be more user friendly I would say, but it converted my movie perfectly. And the video player made use of the accelerometer so I couldn't complain about it.

I know that VLC has transcoding capabilities:
http://wiki.videolan.org/Transcode

According to the tmonews article here, http://forums.tmonews.com/index.php?topic=3261.0, these are the specs to transcode to:

Output Container: mp4
Output Video Codec: MPEG-4
Output Audio Codec: AAC LC

Video Scale Size: 480:320
Aspect: 16:9
Frame/Sec: 15
Bitrate kbps: 384

Sample Freq: 22050
Channels: 2
Bitrate kbps: 64

For converting DVDs, Handbrake can definitely do it (to MP4, MKV, AVI or OGM)

Heres what i recommend,
SUPER ? v2008.build.33 (Sep 2, 2008)
http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
Go to this page to read about it more.

Hope you did'nt pay for any, This one is all you need, really. There may be a update around the corner due to g1's release, since they have presets for devices. This one is 100% freeware... and its the best one I've used. I was into filming when i started using it and cant find anything better ....

There's a ton of presets for ipod, iphone, psp,ps3, flv, gif, web, etc.. large codec library.. . Havent had any problems converting videos ever.

The download you kinda have to jump through hoops and its at the bottom
of this page.. http://www.erightsoft.com/S6Kg1.html

but if its ok heres the straight download link ..

Actually MeMongo linked you to a guide for super and g1.. just noticed looking back at the others, but thanks memongo for getting a guide for super c.. lol. http://forums.tmonews.com/index.php?topic=3261.0

Unfortunately, Visual Hub and iSquint have been discontinued. http://techspansion.com/

Hopefully they will live on as open source projects because they were/are excellent transcoders

i use videora ipod converter....videos doesn't look like they can be played in video player but with Meridian Video Player, they play without a problem.

I just downloaded the super c and I put in all the right codes that I got from this page but the video on computer and on G1 are not playing. Getting audio but no video and I did as I was post too...Any help on this would be great thanks. I had a avi file and wanted to put it on my phone.

Videora is a cool video converter for my G1 ... But it cant convert HD videos like .MKV to my G1 and edit functions are simple, so im forced to buy this "Daniusoft android video converter", it is already optimized for output setting for android phone... very conveniently .
