I went out with my friends last night to a bar. I hadn't been out in a long time. I feel stupid even asking about this but it concerned me because I've never felt this way before.
Well I had just started my menstrual cycle earlier that day and I felt a headache coming on. Its one of those really bad one sided headaches that just sit there and pound away. I don't get those that often but when I do they are bad.
Later on into the night my headache got worse and I got really really nauseated. I was almost to the point of throwing up but never quite did. Sipped on some water and 7up but didn't seem to help. Before the nausea started in a few hours earlier I had a couple of mixed drinks, but never got a buzz or anything and stopped at that. The nausea didn't come on for about 2-3 hours after I had my drink. All the way home as my friends were driving I kept saying to myself please don't throw up, I was so sick, tried to close my eyes and nap until we got back and just couldn't I was so sick.
Came home, used the bathroom, took a shower and went to sleep.
Even this morning I am still a little nauseated but nothing like last night.
Since I am not used to going out to a crowded, noisy, smoky bar, I'm sure it contributed to me feeling like that. We have to go again next weekend. We go because my friend is in a band and I am helping him set up/tear down after their shows, sell tshirts during the shows etc. so I have to be there. I don't want to feel like this again next weekend though.
What should I do? Could it have been a mix of everything? My menstrual cycle, all the noise, smoke of the bar, and my drinks earlier in the evening?

Well, sounds like a migraine to me. I get them all the time and not only will the noise in the bar, the smoke, alcohol etc. make it worse but can also bring one on. I get the nausea also. If you only get them during or right before your cycle you can prob avoid this situation in the future. Do you get these ha's at other times also? I know for me I could never be in a bar (or anywhere else for that matter) with a migraine! Really all you can do is take something for the pain and lay down in a dark, quiet room. sometimes an ice pack on your head or back of neck will help. Also you need to do this as soon as you feel it starting - don't wait until it's unbearable. I don't know if you take any other meds or not but some people find they can get some relief with ibuprofen - if not you can have your doc check you out - there are alot of migraine meds out there but you need a prescription for them. Also alcohol will always make it worse and you need to be careful what you take if you;ve already had some drinks when you get the headache. Good luck!
