'A Nightmare on Elm Street' used to scare the hell out of me when I was younger. I don't find it scary anymore, but there's definetley some creepy parts in it.

Craven's isn't the original film either. It's loosely based on an Ingmar Bergman film.

Yeah, The Virgin Springs - great film. I still enjoyed Last House though, but have no interest in watching the remake.

I would suggest The Haunting (1963), The Innocents and Carnival Of Souls personally.

And to one of the above posters - there is a remake of Freaks!!! Blasphemy!

Okay OP if you're looking for recommendations:

Orphan
The Last House on the Left (new version - not really blood splatter gore horror movie...the story just isn't nice)
The Descent

None of them scared me, they just have their creepy "i'm glad that's not me" moments.

If you want to be truly scared, then I suggest you buy an Xbox360 and buy the game "Condemned: Criminal Origins"...THAT is scarier than any movie I have watched.

Went to get the orphanage from hmv, but it was out of stock! so instead ended up watching pet semetary for the first time, and it suitably scared the bejesus out of me,even though i had already read the book! good job i wasn't sleeping alone!

I know this is really embarrassing but I found The Ring terrifying!

Baring in mind I was about 13 when I watched it, my frienRAB were absolutely obsessed with it and used to insist on watching it whenever we had a sleepover. It scared me so much that I ended up going to the doctors as my nightmares from it were so bad. I've still never been able to bring myself to re-watch it.

It's only in the last couple of years that i've really got into horror films and nothing I have seen since watching The Ring has scared me even a fraction as much.

I didn't find The Exorcist scary at all

There was 1 scene in Exorcist 3 that scared the pants of me though

I tried to watch the original and couldn't get into it, was a bit boring...

I havn't played that game...might be worth a look Silent Hill used to freak me out!
