Very painful stomach issue if drinking on empty stomach

This has been happening to me for a while now.

I am 25, a social drinker, and put bluntly, i do enjoy getting drunk with my mates on weekends mainly on just beer.

After a few drinks and im starting to feel a bit drunk, ill start to get this stomach pain which quickly gets worse and worse... I dont know what stomach cramps feel like but it feels like my stomach is dissolving itsself, its not a sharp pain its just a really sore stomach and if i dont do anything about it quickly it becomes completely incapacitating and all i can do is sit there hunched over in pain.

It only happens when there isnt enough food in my stomach, and its not just beer that does it - its any kind of fizzy drink that i drink lots of on an empty stomach.

There are 2 ways to cure it that i have discovered. The slow way is to eat something, i just scoff my face as fast as i can with whatever food i can find and in within a few minutes it starts to go away.

Milk is the ultimate fix though, a big drink of milk and it starts to subside within a minute.

A couple of people i know get this, and we have no idea what it is. Can anyone shed some light?

For over ten years now, I have been unable to drink anything carbonated, alcoholic or not.

I have a sensitive stomach (also cannot eat fruit or drink fruit juice because of the acid). I believe this is something that happened from years of drinking sodas, wine coolers and fruit juices. The stomach lining just eventually became sensitive to it.

The reason food and milk help with it is because it helps absorb the excessive stomach acids created by the carbonation and/or alcohol. When your stomach becomes sensitive to things, it over-reacts by creating more acid to try to digest whatever more quickly. Having food or milk helps get it through without so much direct contact to the stomach lining as it helps absorb it a bit.

I was advised years ago by my doctor to quit both carbonation and alcohol because they said this could be a pre-ulcerative condition, so you may want to try drinking something that is not fizzy like beer or carbonated mixed drinks.

Let us know how it goes!

I always have to eat something while I am drinking alcohol.

The only thing I can tell you is to eat a snack while drinking to help with your stomach problems. Its always best to have something in your stomach when your drinking.
