Very basic car audio question....hopefully :)?

OK so I am completely clueless to anything car or audio related (yes I am a woman lol) but I just bought a 1993 Ford Explorer. The radio volume is very low and I found out my rear speakers dont work. Sometimes when I go over bumps, I hear them turn on and for a split second which leads me to believe there is a loose wire. How do I get to it? I finally figured out how to take the head unit off but have no idea what anything is. Im trying to be cheap and fix it myself so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks coder. I know its hard to believe but I need even more specifics. How do I know they are connected properly. I literally have never seen the back of a head unit before today. All those wires are just attached to one plug in the back of the head unit. Do i need to take my door panel off to access more wires? How do they connect?
