Versed anesthesia side effects

I had an endoscopy about 6 months ago that the doctor found I have esophilitic esophagitis. He wants to do another endoscopy to go ahead and dialate my esophagus because the meds he gave me aren't helping my swallowing problems.
I have a very bad feeling that something bad happened during my last endoscopy.
I remember when he was injecting the anethesia into my veins I felt a weird feeling my my chest/lungs area and gasped for breath like short, quick gasps of breath and think I remembered hearing the nurse telling me to just breath.
I am scared to have another one because of this. I mean obviously I woke up in the recovery room they gave me some ice chips then a soda and let me go home but what was this that happened to me?
Has this happened to anyone during an endoscopy?

they usually give you a combo of fentanyl and versed for most procedures like you had. i would simply discuss this with your doc and find out what that reaction may have been and if they also used fent. its a very strong narcotic. one thing you can do is obtain all of the docs 'op notes' from the procedure and read thru them yourself.if something occured,it would be in there. just call the place where you had this done and tell them you want the records. they will send you out a release to sign and send back to them. I do not think that it was the versed that was bothering you--it sounds like the medication had not completely taken effect when they began putting the scope down your throat. I think you were reacting to the scope as it was being placed down your throat and you were getting scared because you thought that you were choking. When you see your doctor, tell him/her that you were not completely sedated before he started the procedure and if you are to have this procedure done again, than could he/she please insure that the sedation has taken effect before they begin.

I don't know what it was but scared me to death. As far as I can remember of course I was almost completely out when the anesthesia was taking effect. I can get copies of my record and if anything did go wrong it would be in there right?
I had another endoscopy a couple of years ago with a different doctor and they used a throat numbing spray and this doc didn't. Also my first endoscopy I wouldn't wake up and my husband said they had to give me another shot of something in the iv to wake me up.

you could probably request that spray again,i am sure they must have some lying around just given what they do all day there. as far as ANY of your medical records goes, you DO have a right to copies of all medical records, procedure notes and test results that are generated on you. just call that place and ask them for a release of information to be sent out to you. you simply fill it out with the specific date(if you can remeber,if not they should still be able to track it down using your name) and then sign it and send it back. the info should arrive in your mailbox in usually about one weeks time. i do this all the time since i see many diffeent docs and have had so many surgeries and procedures done. i have my own copies of everything that has been done on me. you DO have a right to this info, just in case you should run across a overly possessive nurse or business office person.
