Versamail and Gmail and authentication, SSL, TLS

There has been a lot of buzz around Gmail lately but it didn't intereset me due to the lack of possibility to read mail on Palm.

Now that Gmail has started supporting POP3 and SMTP protocol I
thought this will be my future mailprovider since it can be used easily with my Palm TT :-)
However, after I had entered the server, login and so on Versamail couldn't connect to Gmails POP server. So now I realised POP requires SSL and SMTP requires authentication and TLS...
Does Versamail really not support this? Or have just missed something?

Versamail does support SSL, just continue hitting "Next" during account setup / edit.

I've also been using SnapperMail and have the option to set both Incoming and Outgoing SSL parameters.

Additionally, GMail indicates it will be supporting Pop 3, but until you are notified by checking the "Settings" within Gmail and actually seeing "Forwarding / Pop 3" they haven't turned on support for your account.

I'm still waiting for them to activate my Gmail for Pop 3. Their FAQ indicates they are "rolling out" Pop 3 over the next few weeks.

Thanks for your help but my Versamail does not have any SSL option when I continue clicking Next.
Strange, can it be that this feature was added later? Whats your version?

My "About" selection tells me I have version 2.6.1.

Page prior to SSL says:

"Your xxxxx account is completed. To exit, tap done.

To set addional mail options, tap next."

When I tap "Next" I see "Incoming Mail Options:" and at the bottom of the screen an area to enter another Port Number:

and the next line has a check box:

Use Secure Connection (SSL).

Final line indicates the Maximum Message Size: in KB.

Clicking "Next" again take me to the "Outgoing Mail Options:"

and two more "Nexts" gets me to the Outgoing Port Number and a checkbox for:

My server requires authentication (ESMTP).

For one of the mail services I use, I need the incoming SSL,

BUT it doesn't need the ESMTP option.

Thanks for your further info but it doesn't seem to apply to my Versamail. My version is v2.0.
I do have the some alternatives if I choose Options -> Mail Servers.. -> Details -> Incoming Mail
There I have a "APOP" alternative. This isn't the SSL option, is it?

Under Advance Outgoing there is a checkbox for ESMTP

Do you know if Versmail can be updated somehow?

Did you guys ever get the pop up and running fully? I've been able to get gmail to let me receive messages, but some setting is off somewhere, and it won't let me send any? I've got all the info in correctly, I think. Does anyone know if there is some security setting or something that I am missing? I've tried it with authentication checked and unchecked and I get two different errors.
I'll write back with the specific error message I am getting later.

Thanks,
Discovering new things about my T3 everyday!

I've solved all of my problems subscribing to smtp.com. They allow you to send email from anywhere using the same outgoing mail server settings & from any device. Their quick response to all of my questions impressed me. Really, they are the best!

Gmail has always been a problem for me. I've been sucessful once or twice with Snappermail on sending and receiving, but it's very inconsistent. I couldn't get Versamail 2.61 to work with Gmail. I use Gmail as my main personal e-mail address.

The solution I arrived at was to have Gmail automatically forward my messages to the e-mail address associated with my current ISP. Versamail works fine with my ISP e-mail. This way if I change ISPs I still have the same e-mail address which allows forwarding. The smtp.com solution looks excellent too, but I didn't want to pay for something extra.
