Verizon's New Every Two Question?

I understand about getting a new phone every two years, so long as you sign up for another two year contract.
But my question is, When you sign up for another two years, can you choose ANY phone to upgrade to? Or is it only up to a certain price range that you are allowed until you would have to pay the remaining balance of the phone? And if it IS only up to a certain price, how do they calculate how much you are allowed towards the upgrade? or is it a set amount?
Any help would be great! thanks!
 
I know that verizon give you a $50 dollar credit towards a new phone when your 2 year contract is up. If its a $200 dollar phone you have to pay $150 of it. I just got an iphone,so i am not sure if at&t gives you credit or covers the full amount when your 2 year contract is up.
