Verizon Wireless network tests today in Boston and Seattle prove that LTE is much faster than current 3G networks. The tests showed that LTE is capable of reaching 40-50 MBPS Download and 20-25 MBPS upload. Wow...that's even faster than my current Cable Broadband. Charter doesn't even own speeds that go to 50 MBPS!

Verizon Wireless has been testing LTE since August 2009 in both Seattle and Boston. More than successful data calls included streaming video, file uploads and downloads, and web browsing, as well as VoIP calls to enable voice transmissions over LTE calls. Verizon Wireless engineers report that the most common download speeds are from 5-12 MBPS and upload is 2-5 MBPS. These are the speeds that I generally experience on a daily basis with my Charter internet.

Verizon Wireless expects to have LTE rolled out to more than 100 million people by the end of 2010. This is twice the size of Sprint's current WiMax network.

Wow, as you said in other post, this seems well worth grabbing! I understand I have to keep 24 mo contract phone at least 20 months to upgrade to new LTE 24 month contract phone without penalty. So if get Verizon 2.1 ERIS as soon as available (been assured that 2.1 is just around the corner), would put me out to 12/11 for an LTE, or if not so frugal and withstand penalty, maybe a year sooner. I'm assuming Chicago will be an early market, big city, sound reasonable? In a whole new technology like this, what happens if not in a 4G coverage area, just drops back to 3G or 2G? I'm guessing reception still would be available, just slower, right?
