Verizon Wireless Upgrades?

Ok, can someone please explain to me how upgrades work?

My dad is thinking about getting our family new phones (since our 2 year contract is coming to an end), but he is looking at the price to buy a phone another two year contract (meaning the droid will cost $200).

However, I thought you were able to get any phone you wanted for FREE upon the expiration date of your contract?

Am I right? Please explain!

No, the $200 is already a disounted price. Full retail is like $589. $200 is the price when you sign a 2-year contract. There is no possible way you can get the Droid for free (other than the "Buy One Get One Free" deal.)
