Verizon Wireless ring tones problem...?

I just purchased a Samsung Intensity and I use Verizon Wireless. I have tried every method known to send myself song clips to use as ring tones. I edited them on sites like myxertones.com and ventones.com. I used their site to send it directly to my phone and I also downloaded them and sent them to my e-mail. The problem is that somewhere between my computer and my phone the files get converted from .mp3 to a QCELP file. I have no idea what a QCELP is and I'm wondering if anybody else has had this problem and/or if they know how to fix it. Thank you.
This happened with my old phone, also. I assumed the problem would go away with a newer phone model. Now I'm not sure if the problem is with Verizon or something else.
