Verizon Smartphone/Data Plan Question

Question. Currently I'm on a normal family non-data plan w/ Verizon, but I'm interested in using a Smartphone (it has WiFi and all that). Can I just do the switch from my old phone to the new one without a hitch or..?

Thank you!

Not sure exactly what u are asking, but with a smartphone you have to have a data plan that is $29.99 monthly charge on top of your family plan. Thats $29.99 extra for every smart phone on your plan.

Are you sure? I thought you only had to pay for the data plan with newly purchased smartphones. And besides. My friend bought a smartphone and had the data plan for a month before canceling so they don't make you keep it apparently.

I was going to buy the phone and transfer my existing phone service to it using the How to do a ESN/MEID change online topic info.. Is this still not possible?

Phones sold after November 2008 are required to have a data plan, no exception. You cannot cancel the data plan. Canceling the data plan would cancel your contract and service.

It won't even allow you to transfer the ESN from a normal phone to a smartphone online...since you wouldn't be on a Smartphone plan.
