Verizon Wireless sold roughly 3.87 million iPhones in the second quarter, according to Verizon Chief Financial Officer Fran Shammo.

The figure represents 51 percent of total smartphones activated, Shammo noted on a conference call on Thursday. Verizon sold 4.1 million iPhones sold in the first quarter.
The carrier earlier reported a 21 percent gain in second-quarter profits as it added 1 million net new customer connections. It activated a total of 7.5 million smartphones in the period.
Verizon didn't disclose the number of Android activations, but it likely made up a bulk of the rest of the 49 percent of the phones activated in the period. While Verizon offers a number of other devices, including Windows Phones and BlackBerrys, Androids continue to make up a strong part of the company's results, driven by products like the Samsung Galaxy S4.
