Verizon Krzr K1m Flashed to Java with dual nam.

Here is what I am looking to do and was wondering if it was possible. I am going to get a Krzr K1m originally from Verizon and I saw that you can flash the firmware to Alttel/Telus to get Java running and Mark Venture has instructions on how to get it going on Verizon's network.

Would it be possible to do the same flash but instead of inputting Verizons settings to enable all of the phones features(wap phone mms text) Put in crickets setting into the phone. That way you would have a a Java based phone running on cricket that would allow google maps, gmail application and other java based programs.

Assuming that could be done would it also be possible to set up the talk and text on nam two to support verizons pay per use service so that when I am out of cricket calling areas I could use verizons network on a pay per use basis. I know this is possible but I have not seen it setup with the java based flash)

I have done a lot of searching and would appreciate all answers and no flaming!

Before you do anything--be sure that the firmware you select supports dual NAM's. It may need to be enabled using a SEEM edit.

Then, ACTIVATE THE PHONE with Verizon!!! Be sure to do a *228 and a *228 option 2 once activated.

Then, backup the Verizon provisioning (the NAM, and CDMA info) using Motorola PST.

Flash with the firmware of your choice. Then reload the Verizon provisioning.

Then activate the phone's ESN with Cricket and get an MDN/MIN pair ready for it. Load the Cricket PRL into the other NAM and do your Cricket provisioning.

Done.

Does the Verizon account have to be on Nam 1 or does it matter?

Also will the Razr.rar file from the "How to get Cricket WAP and MMS working on Alltel v3m MONSTER!" guide work on the K1m?

I have been working on this the past two days and maybe I will put together a walk through for us cricket users who want JAVA on cricket when I am done. I am having problems with two issues. I cannot access the web from the "wireless web" option. I can however go into #0setup* mode and then "Web Sessions" and then clicking "Cricket_Wap" I also cannot get any java application to connect to the web either. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a ton.

That's the rub: You have to choose whether you're going to get WAP from the Verizon provisioning or the Cricket provisioning because as of right now you can't do both on the same hanRABet.

There are two factors stopping you: The first is that Cricket interfaces with the Internet using Simple IP Only, whereas Verizon phone use Mobile IP Preferred. Some PDA's allow this, but then comes the second problem: Cricket uses a proxy server and proxy port while Verizon has no such proxy.

So even though you are able to create multiple web sessions, they still have to use either Simple IP only or Mobile IP preferred. So you're back to square zero.

Hope this makes sense!

I guess I figured it was possible because on the HTC touch heaRABet I had before I was able to run java based applications and they were able to connect to the net such as google maps. And that was on the cricket network. It seems that I am probably better off just using the cricket monster and using the seem edit for dual nam to support verizon prepaid as well.

Does anyone know why cricket is based in San Diego and does not have Evdo here?

No you can use Java but not Brew for both carriers.

Java should work fine, even with Cricket's proxy in play.

Use the v3m WAP settings here in the forums.

I do not need the brew to work and I know it will not if you have the java. I have the wap settings installed on my phone but every time i try to connect to the wireless web i get internal error 500 or a java application such as google maps tries to run it cannot find a connection. It is funny because if I go into the #0setup* like i said before it will allow me to connect to the web.

Obviously I am not getting something here. I really appreciate your patience.

I think the problem is that once the web session connects, the phone has to connect to the Cricket proxy (i.e., wap.mycricket.com, user name [email protected], password "cricket"). I don't know if the Java interpreter in the firmware even asks or tries to connect through proxy.

My guess is that it might be a seem edit.

*EDIT: Have you tried provisioning a RT Browser setting for your phone using Motorola PST?

You would seem to be correct in your analysis. Has anyone tried to get this working??? I am really a newb who knows how to follow directions when it comes to this stuff. If you are aware of any links I would appreciate them greatly.

I think I have an idea of what happened. The steps call for you to backup and restore seems but for the verizon flash before you flash to the alltel monster. I am going to save the seems from a cricket monster and try inputting those.

Tried all of the options so unless there is a seem edit I am missing somewhere I guess I am stuck. I would be interested to see if anyone could get it working. I would love to be able to use google maps and gmail app on my krzr with cricket.

Couple of possibly redundant questions:

--What NAM are you in when you try to connect?
--Are you using Cricket's WAP provisioning exclusively?

You know, you can always use Verizon's WAP provisioning just to see if that works instead, since Verizon doesn't use proxy. Remeraber to reset your MIP settings to MIP Preferred if you're going to try that route.

It might be possible--the phone only uses the Cricket MDN for the initial dialing string (#777) I think. The only way to know for sure is to try it.

As far as the Clicks hack goes; good question, but I think I remeraber reading somewhere that it doesn't. There's a thread floating around here about it.......
