Verizon Fios modem/computer problems?

I've recently upgraded to Verizon Fios in my new home, and am loving the speeds as well as costs. I have several computers in my home, but only one on a direct connection to my modem: my gaming PC. Lately not only in searching for servers, but browsing as well, I get errors like "The page could not be connected" or whatever it says when your modem isn't plugged in, but specific already loaded pages work. For gaming servers I get connectivity issues, and sometimes even a unusually high ping. I tried disabling the main firewall, as well as Kaspertsky Anti-Virus, but to no avail. I'm thinking it's either my computer/Modem/connecting wire (thing) or a combination of such...Help?

[I use Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, same errors on both]
Is a network card the thing that allows me to use the web in the first place? I couldn't find much help over the webs... I was probably looking in the wrong places
Completely ignore the added details, I was searching network adapter.
