Verizon Coverage Expanded From Alltel Yet?

Have the Alltel networks switched over to Verizon yet? I'm asking because I go back to OU, south of Oklahoma City next week and Verizon used the US Cellular network there but Alltel covers that area. If the towers have switched then I should be able to get the EV-DO network for my Voyager instead of just the 1X. Just wondering how soon it will be for all the Alltel towers to become Verizon towers since I'm where Alltel covers well...

It will be months before the coverage conversion happens.

Also, make sure your area that you will be in isn't an area Verizon will be getting rid of. Usually, they get rid of areas where they have a third party carrier already providing them some kind of coverage.

oh ok. I hadn't seen any info so I wondered if it would be as long as the rest of the merger process...

my market isn't listed for divesture so I'm assuming it will be kept? Verizon has no presence in Oklahoma City, a metro area in at least the top 50 I believe. It's one of the biggest markets they aren't in. Ready to get VZW coverage and stores!

It actually will have little impact on the overall coverage area of Verizon Wireless.

Verizon Wireless has used almost 100% of Alltel's network for years to roam on (it was free for Verizon Wireless customers to roam in the USA). This means, the current Alltel network is/was considered Extended/off network. When Verizon Wireless converts everything, the only difference in those areas will be the fact Verizon Wireless now has on network coverage instead of Roaming. Verizon's overall coverage area will be nearly the same. The on network coverage will be the largest in the United States.

yeah, the coverage area is about the same but the EV-DO coverage should improve. and I also have some problems with reliability of the extended network signal here, especially in high traffic. but even on regular days, texts don't always send without a few tries

When a customer is roaming (extending network) the network they are roaming on (i.e. Verizon customer on Alltel network) will give priority to their customers. This means an extended network customers call is more likely to be terminated. It also means texting will be less reliable.
