Verizon Buying Unicel?!?!?!?!?!

Yes, it's true. Verizon will offer you a new phone, some models will be free. I'm hoping they'll support the existing plans for some time, but I doubt it...be ready to choose one of their current plans. At least you'll know coverage WON'T suck since it's Uncel's coverage.

I have found Verizon's customer service 2nd to none. They have helped me out of a jam several times. I agree they mess with the software and if you don't like their current phones you'll be unhappy. But if Unicel was the only service that worked for you, at least Verizon's coverage will be as good...or better.

Unicel is CDMA in the central part of the US, so only some markets will need to be converted. If you could somehow subscribe to AT&T or T-Mobile you would still be able to roam on the old Unicel GSM sites, but you wouldn't have a local number.

OMG someone help me!!! I currently have Unicel...and i want to know if im going to have to choose a verizon plan? or keep mine? This whole thing is confusing me!!!

PLEASE HELP :(

This deal is already closed. Verizon has already seized operations of Unicel. If you haven't been notified yet, you won't be effected.

It also appears you already have a Verizon Wireless phone.

I am a Unicel agent at this time and soon to be a Verizon agent, I watched Unicel grow to become the 20th largest wireless company in the nation, until purchased by Verizon. This type of merger was very predictable, I too thought that At&T or T-Mobile would have purchased Unicel however this was not the case. I love GSM, and I can do things with it that you can't with cdma. Now in my opinion the reason they purchased Unicel was because they wanted to stop the roaming on USC system, and at the same time collect the check from At&T and T-Mobile for roaming on Unicel's GSM system which is not shabby at all.

Verizon is putting out a lot of cash to replace everyones phones, and build out a complete cdma network that will overlay the currant GSM network. Unicel customers will have all of the cool features that Verizon customers now have in the cities Vcast, Navigation, Push to talk, Broadband speed data.

Verizon spends 1 billion on thier network every 60 days, and so far from what I have seen here this is true. Verizon's plans don't compare at this time with Unicel's plans, however this could change at anytime, anyone that is a Unicel customer now can keep thier currant plan if they take one of the offered free phones. I think it would be in the Unicel customers best interest to at least try it first before jumping to something else.

Yea! Their plans do change a lot. Verizon has already began to compromise with the Alltel MyCircle.

Yes this is really good news, even though it is more expensive, I so far have found Verizon very accommodating and I am looking forward to working with thier network people and services. I have been doing this for a long time and I love Unicel, but Verizon will have the capital to do things sooner and add greater value for the customer.
