Verizon 4g Network/Android Phone?

My contract on Verizon ends this December, and I am looking at getting a new phone(Android). I am looking at the HTC Merge, but I am also hearing rumors about an HTC Droid Incredible HD. When is Verizon's 4g network supposed to be released, and if I should wait until then to get a phone. I don't want to get a phone and then have it go out of style in 2 months.
