Velcro on an off camera flash cord?

So I'm about ready to get an off camera flash cord for my Canon T2i. I still want to be able to keep my flash on top of my camera in the place where it would normally sit in the hot shoe in addition to using the cord, but I dont want to add a huge flash bracket to my rig just to hold the flash on top.

I was wondering if anyone thinks it would be a worthy idea to put some super heavy duty Velcro on the ends of the flash cord to be able to hold the flash unit with the cord still attached onto the camera in the standard on-camera flash position.
Heavy duty Velcro, like the kind used on EZ passes

Hopefully you know what I mean....
If not, anyone have any good suggestions for a low profile, sleek flash bracket?
