VCR says it's ejecting, but it's not?

I have a VCR/DVD combo set (Emerson EWD2204) & the VCR is being very temperamental!

Last night I was trying to watch something I had recorded, I rewound the tape a little, then when I pressed play the screen was frozen for a moment. At first I thought it was whatever I recorded so I pressed fast forward then the entire machine cut off.

When I pressed the power button on the remote, it came on and the display at first said "Eject T" which I've never seen before. However, it didn't eject and instead shut off again after about 5 seconds or so. I kept pressing power and I don't know what else I pressed, but now it says "Eject C", but it still doesn't eject. It doesn't even make the noise it usually makes before ejecting.

I can't do anything with it, it doesn't stay on long enough. I can't watch DVD's or anything else.

Is there a way to fix this? Can anyone please, please help? Best Answer will be chosen by me. Thank you!
Ugh, of course it's out of warranty (just my luck, right?)

If I remember correctly, it's done some craziness like this before - but I don't remember what I did to fix it. I guess this will teach me to buy cheap products right?

Until I can replace this unit, it's going to be like heroin with drawls due to me being a TV junkie and needing to record often.

I'm afraid your internal transformer is shot.
If you live in America or Europe, the wall voltage is 120 or 220 volts. BUT the Emerson, and all other VCR's operate on 5 or 6 volts on the inside. Maybe the clock uses the high voltage. The internal transformer reduces the voltage..24 hours a day, for years and years on standby.

So now, there is no good way to repair this. If a favorite VHS tape or DVD is still inside, then you will have to open several screws (unplug machine from wall) and ....go fishing inside.

I'm guessing your DVD/VCR is now out of warranty?
