Vatican Declares Homer Simpson Is Catholic

It's obvious he's not Catholic. In "The Frying Game" when Marge was about to be sent to death, Marge tells the Priest that they aren't catholic. then the priest gets into a fight with Reverend LoveJoy

Basing myself on "The Father, The Son, and the Holy Guest Star" they're inclined more into the Protestant/Lutheran side of Christianity.

Homer Simpson keeps up an atheist attitude and he usually can't be bothered to go to church but their church is protestant and Homer said he didn't want to raise his children CATHOLIC:confused::confused: and the people who should decide what religion a fictional character is is their creators themselves NOT the vatican.

You know who this is bad news for?
Helen and Jessica Lovejoy.

I like this story because it?s a refreshing change to see a popular show with some satire get positive attention, rather then condemned. They are even trying to be a little bit funny.

I wonder what differences there are in the Italian translation of the Simpsons. I?d fully expect the Reverend to be fully intact with his family.
Unlike Arab Simpsons where I believe the story was they heavily edited to somehow make them Islamic.

Yeah, we know it's part of their religion since the Flanders believe in it, so it's kind of weird that Marge hasn't seen to it that the kids were baptized.
There's always his mothers side.
But then again their background makes no sense, like the really stupid way they made them black.

I thought Family Guy did that (but then again Family Guy was never supposed to be taken seriously) what episode was this?

It's silly over-analyzation. The Vatican actually has thousands of articles like this on a myriad of subjects. (Ex- Catholic philosophers find nothing wrong with Halloween and even did a paper explaining this stance)

Besides, I like the portrayal of the earlier Homer (when bought up) as a spiritual, if lazy individual. The whole episode where he doesn't go to church actually shows Homer as being in touch with God but too lazy to sit through a sermon. It's actually kind of interesting to see that. Regardless of demononation, at least the SImpsons doesn't demonize religion like Family Guy did in "Not all dogs go to Heaven."

The newer seasons of The Simspons (Sucksons) did it quite a lot:sad: and FG had Quagmire chew up Brian's Atheism (along with a lot other stuff) and spat it in his face.

Season 21 ?The Color Yellow.?
I guess I shouldn?t spoil it for you further, but one of my least favorite episodes.
When Family Guy did about the same thing it was a much more worth while episode. But now they gave Peter a second dad, so it may all be moot.

I'd like to see the one in LA CIVILT? CATTOLICA which sounds like some good over thinking about cartoons, but I couldn't figure out if I'm supposed to buy it, or order a copy, or what.

You might as well go spoil it since it doesn't sound like something worth watching (wasting time on) and if all what Peter Griffin interoperates with his and lois's ancestors the griffins are inbred to the extreme:sad::ack::eek:

Again, did anyone even take time to read the article? It just dumbfounds me that people are focusing more on the article's hook, than the articles message.

Also, BBC also fails at reporting too. L'Osservatore Romano is not the Pope's offical newspaper. It would be like saying the Washington Post is the President's Official newspaper.

My SAN levels are approaching 0 at this point.

I wish religion would stop rearing it's head into every situation, especially something as universal as cartoons. I hate to get involved into a debate or discussion about anything that has to do with religion because I feel the topic divides people and causes people to turn on eachother when their "faith" is challenged, but I really think the Vatican needs to butt out and stop trying to weave themselves into the mainstream to try and keep themselves in the news, there are non-religious people who don't want to hear it. As for Homer Simpson being a Catholic, I doubt that he is but I do remember an episode or two where he didn't want to go to curch and one episode inparticular where he actually fell asleep in church, so if he is indeed a Catholic I'm sure he doesn't care too much about it.
